When Clouds Part

It must’ve been a cloudless day,
one caught peeking between endless grey
when you both settled into the same pace
merging into rhythm,
guided by the same meter and time
going the same place.
The newborn sunray beamed and stretched from its hidden rest,
wiped the cold from its eyes and refocused its energy,
refreshed.
It caught the flickering beacon of your lighted souls
unimpeded by distance, obstacles or rules,
the light must have shone so bright with no clouds below
to let your prayers reach free to the heavens,
exploding with a receptive glow.
All the soft wishes of hope and good
you once silently said as a child and through adulthood
finally broke free from the burrs of the clouds
and could ascend.
Those who answer to prayer and hope
were suddenly alarmed with urgency of work
and began practicing their art.
Not soon after the warm thoughts and prayers washed over their providing minds,
your eyes caught
- a glowing, whitewashed, sunlit stare.
and you couldn’t control it as you thought;
“I know he’ll always be there.”
“I know she’ll always be there”

No one can ever see
the smiles of silver-lined silhouettes above,
Only when clouds part
can they finally practice their art
of accepting two souls bound to fall in love.
